PANAMA: Moscoso resigns as Arnulfista president

The political opposition is in disarray. One year after Martí­n Torrijos won the presidential elections and gained a decisive majority in congress, the opposition is divided and weak. The former ruling party, the Partido Arnulfista (PA), which performed especially badly in the elections, made a significant break with the past on 31 March in an effort to reinvent itself: the former president, Mireya Moscoso, resigned (under pressure) as leader of the party she had formed in 1990.
